There are two nude events in July 2010 worth your time.

Skinny Dipping at Haulover Beach in 2009

The first is the AANR Guinness Book of World Records Skinny Dip on July 10. The goal is to give people an excuse to go skinny dipping at a beach, resort, lake, river or club. It’s healthy. It’s natural. It’s fun. It’s simple. Go to a participating location. Remove your clothes. Jump in the water. Smile. And you get to be a part of history by helping set a world record.

The AANR (American Association of Nude Recreation) website has details on where you can participate. If you’re going to be in south Florida, join us at Haulover Beach. One of the best clothing optional beaches in the USA. We’ll be working with the people from South Florida Free Beaches to create a video of the event which can be ordered through Things To Do Nude later this month.

Black's Beach Nude Surf Contest

The other is the nude surf event at Black’s Beach in San Diego on July 25, 2010. Waves may not be big, but it’s a summer day on a beautiful beach with thousands of naked people. Despite being the nation’s largest, and possibly most liberal state – California has very few nude beaches. Activists with too much time and too little respect for other people’s personal choices have worked hard to shut down San Onofre for nude use. Whether you’re an active nudist, have tried it a few times, or just believe that people should be free to pursue personal choices if they don’t harm others – come soak up some sunshine, get in the ocean and try surfing, boogie boarding or body surfing.

There’s great prizes including a free weekend at Glen Eden Sun Club including resort passes and accommodations, and lots of other great stuff. The Blacks Beach Bares arrange a bbq, beach toys, umbrellas and other amenities to make it a great event.

Nude recreation should be simple. Practiced by those who enjoy it, in areas where others won’t be confronted or offended. Show your support and join one of the upcoming events.

Top Ten Things To Do Nude in 2010

At the beginning of 2010 we made a list of the Top Ten Things to Do Nude in 2010. It’s for people that love nude recreation, and those who are curious and would like to try it sometime. Some are specific events in a certain place and time. Others can be done almost anywhere.

There are hundreds of campgrounds and resorts. Find one near you at www.AANR.com

It doesn’t really make sense that nudity gets a bad reputation with some people. We pay extra for the natural and organic food at the grocery store, think the Prius is cool because it’s environmentally friendly and are taking re-usable bags to the store to avoid excess packaging and waste. But getting in touch with the environment in your natural state is somehow bad. Let’s change that!

There are nude beaches at lakes, rivers and oceans around the country, and around the world. Get out, have fun, be healthy and active.

We’re creating short videos for each of the Top Ten Things To Do Nude in 2010. You can find them on the Things to do Nude website or our YouTube page.

Which ones will you do this year? A day at a local nude resort of campground, running in the Bay to Breakers in San Francisco, learning to surf at Black’s Beach? The fun is waiting. All you have to lose is some silly inhibitions that natural is good for your breakfast cereal, but bad for you.

There’s a nude beach close to just about everyone. As for surfing, you can try body surfing, boogie boarding, board surfing, wind surfing. The point is to get out, be active, have fun and see how great it feels to enjoy nude recreation. If you happen to live (or visit) Southern California, we offer nude surf lessons in the summer. So make plans to visit a nude beach this summer. It’s time to expose yourself to something new.

#6 Compete in the Blacks Beach Nude Surf Event

Every summer there is a nude surf event at Black’s Beach in San Diego. Thousands of nude people on one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Warm water, sunshine and a surf event where anybody and everybody is welcome to participate. There are prizes for the winners, t-shirts, a beach bbq, fun, games and a chance to create memories for a long, long time. The date is July 25, 2010. Southern California Nude 5K

On April 18, nude 5K running finally comes to Southern California with the Bare Burro 5K at Olive Dell Ranch!

There are many nude runs around the country, attracting hundreds of runners for a day of freedom, exercise and fun. The Bare Buns Fun Run series is a total of 3 events at Kaniksu Ranch, Fraternity Snoqualamie and Wreck Beach in Vancouver Canada that attracts hundreds of runners to each event. In 2009 the overall winner posted a very impressive time of 00:16:33 so there’s opportunity for real competition as well as fun.

Nude 5K Runners Take off

Southern California has always faced a challenge of not having nudist resorts with large enough grounds to host a 5K run. But with millions of people living in the area, and tens of thousands of runners participating in 5K runs from San Diego to Santa Barbara – it’s time to put on the running shoes (and nothing else) and get running. The idea has even been supported by Nike with their online video for a nude running camp.

Bare Burro Nude 5K Trail Run

Thanks to some thinking and networking on the part of Ken and Bobby at Olive Dell Ranch, a 5K trail course has been created that follows trails through Olive Dell and adjacent private property. It’s only $25, includes a t-shirt, full day admission to Olive Dell and some other fun planned for the post-race party. The run begins and ends at the Olive Dell clubhouse with swimming pool, sun decks, HUGE jacuzzi, game room and restaurant.

There will be prizes for top finishers in age categories, and for men and women. Whether you want to run, walk, or a little of both its a great way to get active, do something different and have some fun. We’re happy to see that the Terra Cotta Inn in Palm Springs just celebrated their 15th birthday – in their birthday suits of course.

It’s a challenge to keep any small business going for 15 years. It’s lots of hard work, long hours and dedication. You’ve got to have a good product, great services and develop a strong and loyal base of customers. Full credit to owners Tom and Mary Clare that they’ve done all of that – and made it look easy.

If you’ve never been, Terra Cotta is a boutique nudist resort in Palm Springs, California. It’s got beautiful gardens, a sparkling pool, oversized Jacuzzi, tranquil waterfall garden, outdoor massage pavilion and very well appointed guest rooms. They serve breakfast each morning, and Tom’s famous bow-tie afternoon wine and appetizers. You can see a video tour of the resort at our website.

If you’ve been before you know all that. Now the only thing you need to figure out is when you’re going back for nude rest and relaxation, and congratulate and thank Tom and Mary Clare for 15 great nude years – and wish them (and all of us) many, many more.

Viva Las Vegas

View from a Suite at the Palms Las Vegas

Had a business trip to Las Vegas a few weeks ago. Sin City. What happens there, stays there. Topless Show Girls, Thunder from Down Under. Zumanity. You’d think it would be a place great for nude recreation. We found some, but not where we expected.

Lake Mead Nevada

Started at Lake Mead. November day with tons of sun and temps around 80. Perfect. The Las Vegas Bares group published a map to 8 mile beach which we followed closely, but couldn’t find the beach. Lake was beautiful (although the water was a bit low) and the water was surprisingly warm for November – but no nude beach. A few campers, a few fisherman and a dirt road that had been bulldozed to the point it was impassable. Maybe that was the road to the nude beach and an overzealous bulldozer driver decided it should be closed?

Next stop our hotel at the Palms Place – a hip and happening hotel just a few blocks off the strip. The hotel has a great low key, happening vibe. We had a very cool one bedroom suite with a million dollar view of the Strip and a huge balcony. Having struck out at Lake Mead, we took advantage to grab a glass of wine and hang out naked on the deck. Video report now posted at Things To Do Nude Video Reports

On the way home we stopped by Silver Valley Sun Club, a nudist campground and resort between Las Vegas and Los Angeles. Our expectations were low, but were really happily surprised. They’ve got a big lake with a few islands, fun clubhouse, lots of camping and trailer areas and a very friendly team of people. It was very quiet on a weekday in November, but when it starts getting warm next spring – you can bet we’ll be back to try out the naked water volleyball in the lake, and enjoy a cold beer on the huge deck overlooking the lake.

So if your Things To Do Nude goal is nearly nude performers….or totally nude depending on which club you want to choose…or nightclubs where there’s not much clothing but plenty of cover charges…you’ll have no problem finding it in Vegas. But if your goal is getting naked and chilling out for a few hours our best recommendation is one of the amazing suites at the Palms Place, or a day at Silver Valley Sun Club.

Blacks' Beach Nude Surf Session

A few months ago we wrote a blog that Nude Surfing Was Coming. It was February and water in California was in the high 50′s. But we knew one day the water and air would be warm enough to surf naked.

So it’s only appropriate to celebrate that for the last few months that’s been possible. Grab a board, nothing else, and head out into the surf. For a few weeks in late August and early September the water was in the high 70′s. Now it’s back to the low 70′s, and very soon will be dipping back into the 60′s (and beyond) until next summer. But while it’s here…it’s GREAT!

This year we did nude surfing at San Onofre Trail Six and Black’s Beach. The waves are generally a bit better at San O, but Black’s is a much better beach. Nicer sand, better scenery, livelier beach scene. And thanks to Lloyd and team from the Blacks Beach Bares, you can enjoy some boogie boarding, bbqs, umbrellas and great crowd when you’re not surfing.

Surf Lesson Student who was riding the waves in minutes

We took part in the Blacks Beach Surf Event, did some nude surf lessons including one with a cool guy from LA who was riding waves just minutes after his lesson started, and made some new surf friends who share the passion for getting out in the waves with nothing but a smile, a surfboard and energy to enjoy the good things of life.

In the next few weeks the water will cool and nude surfing will be a memory…at least for 2009. But it’s also a promise for 2010 and the fun of summer and Things To Do Nude. If you’ve never done it. Make a resolution now that 2010 will be your year to try. It’s fun. It’s healthy. It’s natural. It’s Great!

Naked and Normal

Had a great labor day weekend. Due to schedules it ended up being four days off. Weather was good, ocean water in California was remarkably warm, and that end-of-summer glow added some emphasis on how great it is to be able to surf naked, play frisbee, walks miles along beach and experience freedom. It’s an unlikely solution to all the troubles that confront the world, but if more people would take off their clothes and dive into a warm ocean, that would be a lot less stress, and a lot more people realizing how much we share – rather than how different we are.

Burning Man Naked Freedom

Another year that I missed Burning Man, but it’s on the calendar for the future. I see Burning Man as a celebration that being different is actually totally normal. A place where you can invent, express, explore and exhibit who and what you are. Sometimes clothes and paint and props are part of our expression, and sometimes they aren’t. Burning Man seems to encourage and accept everyone. In a world that has come to believe that hurling insults and fearing others because they’re different is normal – maybe the community that emerges every year on the playa – is the world order we need to pursue.

So some year I’ll be there, but for this year I’ll think of the fun of swimming naked in the ocean, enjoying the smiles on hundreds of naked people as they do the same, or the energy of a naked water volleyball game in the late summer sunshine.

Nude Yoga Catching On

I saw this article in the paper and thought it was totally appropriate. Mind, Body, Relaxation, Nudity. They all go together nicely.

Nude yoga, or naked yoga, is trailing through the US like wildfire. More common in the underground yoga world, naked yoga is now being practiced by celebs like Gwyneth Paltrow and Nicolas Cage.

But that’s not it. Celebrity stars Halle Berry, Jennifer Lopez, Rita Wilson and Naomi Watts have all been catching on to the heat wave of naked yoga.

Reports the Hindustan Times, “The technique involves practicing conventional yoga postures without a stitch on.”

Adds the Times, “Exponents claim it liberates people from their inhibitions and helps unification of the mind, body and soul.”

Nude yoga clubs, studios and social networks are popping up across the States and Canada. Nude classes being profiled are offered under class names or catagories like ‘Sensual Candlelit Nude Yoga,’ ‘Bare Energy Yoga,’ ‘Naked Yoga Basics,’ Goddess Pelvis Ritual for Women’ and ‘Lovers’ Workout’.

San Onofre Trail Six

San Onofre Nude Beach

I’ve been going to the nude beach at San Onofre for something like 15 years. It sounds corny, but for many years, it really was a little Eden. No cars, no buildings, no congestion, no services. Just sand, salt water, sandstone bluffs and serenity. And naked people.

It’s where I learned to surf, met my best friend, and let the harshness of everyday life percolate through sun and sand to become the rich story of my life. And now they plan to close it in just a few weeks. Or at least put a stop to a couple hundred people who like to gather without clothes. But since you have to pay $15 per day to park (or $175 per year for a pass) drive 5 miles to a dead-end road, walk about 1/2 mile, and end up on a beach that’s so rocky getting into the water can by physically painful, I can’t imagine many people will go there if they can’t be naked.

So time will tell. Will bureaucrats and those who believe they know how others should live their life succeed in telling us we can’t be naked on this remote stretch of beach? Or will some common sense and freedom prevail and let people continue to chill out, relax, catch a few waves in the buff? If you’re reading this you’re likely a nudist, or at least curious. We hope you’ll support the cause and help promote places and events that encourage nudity, freedom, self expression. That’s our goal at Things To Do Nude.
